Special Technologies and Adaptive Resources (STAR)

Special Technologies at the Library

The Central Library offers access to its catalog, the Internet, word processing, all print resources and more through special technologies designed for use by people with disabilities.

These include:

• ZoomText computer screen magnifying software
• JAWS computer screen reading software
• DRAGON Naturally Speaking voice recognition software
• Kurzweil scanners and personal reading machine
• Braille embosser
• Aladdin closed-circuit TV magnifier
• Assortment of lighted magnifiers
• American Printing House 4-track cassette player/recorders
• Talking Book cassette machines
• Pocket-Talker assistive listening device

Demonstrations and training are available on all special technologies.

Adaptive Resources at the Library

The Central Library offers a variety of materials in adaptive formats to accommodate the reading, listening and viewing needs of people with disabilities.

These include:

• Braille books
• Large print books
• Talking books
• Descriptive videos
