Code of Conduct

To ensure a safe and appropriate environment for the conduct of library business by both library users and staff, the following rules governing use of the library and its facilities are established by the Onondaga County Public Library Board of Trustees, under authority granted by New York State Education Law, and shall be enforced.

The following will NOT be tolerated:

• Abusive, Obscene or Threatening Language or Behavior
• Alcohol or Illegal Drugs
• Animals, Except Those Assisting Disabled Persons
• Bare Feet, Bare Chest
• Bathing or Shaving in Rest Rooms
• Beverages, Except at Beauchamp, Hazard, Petit and Soule Branches
• Exhibitionism, Voyeurism or Lewd Behavior
• Feet on Furniture or Walls
• Food
• Gambling, Card Playing  
• Noise Disturbing to Others
• Sexual Harassment
• Sleeping
• Smoking
• Soliciting or Panhandling
• Theft of or Damage to Library or Patron Property
• Weapon Possession

Failure to observe the rules governing the use of the library and its facilities will result in loss of library privileges.  Individuals will be denied access to the library for a period of time to be determined under the guidelines established by the Board of Trustees.  Where applicable, charges under civil and criminal law will be filed.
